My Movie Review : Only the Brave

My eyes are filled with tears as I write this review you guys. I started off thinking it was a brotherly bonding movie where Miles Teller might probably die in the end but he is the only one that survives.

The movie is about a fire fighting crew that puts out forest fires. The firefighting crew of Prescott get their Hot shots license and successfully put out so many fires that they become town heroes. They hire a junkie Donough whose life turns around due to the caring crew members and the purpose the job gives him. That’s it. Stop here if you don’t want your heart ripped out. Because after this, the story innocuously introduces another fire in Arizona that needs to be doused and the entire crew of hot shots get caught in the thick of it. But instead of coming out victorious, the movie just throws you under the bus as they burn to ashes and the worst part is that, at the beginning of the movie, it is shown that the fire shelters the crew deploy will save them from the raging fire but no. They die. Leaving behind families. Young children. And they knew this all along. That the fire shelters can’t save them from such fires. So, they literally put their lives on stake to save the forests and the surrounding towns. How can someone be so selfless?

And then a montage to the real heroes behind the movie just puts the last nail in the coffin.

Please watch this movie as it sensitizes you to things that we take for granted. Because I thought forest fires are doused by choppers dropping water not by people digging dirt in the ground starting reverse fires. The fact that there are firefighters out there, right now, risking lives and being brave for the millions of unknown faces is beyond gratification. God bless.
