Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

2/5
I came for Groot and got two hours of forced backstory and Star-Lord daddy issues — an elaborate joke that forgets to land its emotional beats.

I was all excited for this movie because it’s Groot! And I was expecting a team of invincible heroes who can literally save the world. But instead, I got some silly banter between the team and some crappy backstories.

The movie starts with the cute Groot dancing while others fight alien monsters. Cute right? At this point, I expected the movie to be cute. No, but instead, I got some deepshit that I didn’t care about.

The whole starlord - ego feels like a drag. And Gamora addresses her issues with her sister but we don’t even get a glimpse of Thanos.

And the movie keeps on trying to explore the love between Starlord and Gamora the same way it explores the father-son relation between Starlord and Yandu. By ignoring it in one scene and getting fully emotional the next.

For me, the most difficult part is the ending which didn’t feel like a closure to anything that the movie started. No one in this movie takes them seriously and I feel like I wasted my 2 hours on an elaborate joke.

Watch it with no expectations. Also, it doesn’t have any references to other Marvel movies.
